Jack ‘Takes Two’ at Hagans Croft

SATURDAY, September 4 saw the second leg of Hagans Croft’s five-week league being held, with the cross-poles class first on the agenda. This week saw most of the ponies and riders finish with four faults, due to either refusals or unfortunate poles on the ground. Aoife Donnelly and ‘Maxy Boy’ were the only pair to finish on a clear round – however, everyone who took part went home with a nice rosette for all their efforts.

Tabitha Cullen and ‘So Cool’ have been working hard over the course of the year, with all their hard work coming to fruition on Saturday. This pair finished the 50cm course clear all the way in a time of 30.87 seconds, which landed them the red rosette. Tabitha was overjoyed to say the least, with ‘So Cool’ receiving a big pat and probably some treats for the journey home!

Next it was on to the 60cm class, where Alex Helmsley galloped home clear in a time of 23.26 seconds on her steed ‘Vinnie’. Again, this is another pair who have been working so hard on their jumping techniques and Saturday was a good day, when they were awarded the red ribbon for all their efforts.

Jack Cowan certainly made his mark on the 70cm class, as he came home with the top two rosettes in the class. Jack was awarded first place on his mount ‘Take Two’ and second place on his mare ‘Edentrillick Honey Bee’. Not only did Jack come home with two rosettes, but he also achieved the fastest time on the day, within the speed section of the course. Jack and ‘Take Two’ executed all the turns to finish over fences nine to 12 in a time of 18.41 seconds – this was certainly a thrilling round to watch!

The largest class of the day was the 80cm class, where a total of 13 competitors took on the challenge. With a total of 10 competitors achieving double clear rounds, it was down to who did so in the fastest time and that was Jessica House and ‘Tully’s Rebel’. The pair finished in a time of 22.18 seconds and took home the red ribbon, much to ‘Tully’s Rebel’s’ owner’s delight – Siobhan Holloway, who was very proud of her mare’s achievements!

Una Megoran and ‘Misty’ ensured they kept all the poles intact this week, finishing in a time of 23.18 seconds and claiming second place. Well done!

It was great to see so many competitors taking on the challenge of the 90cm class and what fantastic rounds were jumped, with a total of eight clear rounds. Again, for the second week in a row, Sarah Cowan and ‘Pandora D’ took home the red ribbon for this class – they finished the course in a time of 20.4 seconds. The pair went on to not only win the 90cm class, but also the 1m class as well. That was certainly a very successful day’s jumping and gave them lots to celebrate this weekend.

Thank you to everyone who supported the second leg of this five-week league. Hagans Croft hopes to see you all again next week. Thanks are extended to judge Katy Saunders and to all the stewards, who make the event run so smoothly. The league continues until Saturday, September 25 – this event is pre-entry only, with entries closing each Thursday at 8pm prior to Saturday’s event. Times are posted online late on Thursday evening.

To qualify for the final in week 5, each horse/ pony and rider combination must compete in three out of the five weeks and within the same show jumping class. Competitors must be present at the final to be eligible for league placings. Scoring is based on a points system and details of league scores can be found on Hagans Croft’s website or facebook page.

Rosettes are awarded to the first six placings each week and within the overall league placings. Everyone is welcome to compete at the final on September 25, with a separate prize giving held for those competing on the day and those competing within the league.

All photography is available to purchase from Black Horse Photography NI.

Entries are taken via Hagans Croft’s website: www.haganscroftequestrian.co.uk or download the Hagans Croft App.
