Kelsea and ‘Mia’ jump up the leader board at Hagans Croft

SATURDAY, May 29 saw the penultimate leg of Hagans Croft’s six-week Spring Back to Show jumping League. The sun had well and truly got it’s hat on, as competitiors turned out to jump the course of 12 colourful fences.

The day started out with the cross-poles class, where four competitors managed to achieve double clears, nevertheless everyone came home with a rosette.

Then it was on to the 50cm class, where Maisie Elliott and ‘Moonlight’ did it again, achieving first place, followed by Olivia Rodgers on her speedy gelding ‘Motivator’ in second.

Charlie Watson and ‘Master Casper Boy’ steamed into first place in the 60cm class, setting a great time of 21.49 seconds. Jessica House and ‘Kind of Magic’ sorted out their differences from the previous week and executed all the turns through fences nine to 12, flying into second place in a time of 25.46 seconds.

Kelsea Maginnis was delighted with her and her mare ‘Mia’s’ performance in the 70cm class, as they finished clear all the way in a time of 21.49 seconds. The pair came home with the red ribbon, setting themselves up well for the final next Saturday.

In the 80cm class, one of Hagans Croft’s youngest competitors showed everyone how it was done! Charlotte Nelson and her trusty steed ‘Reggie’ soared over the course of 12 fences and set the fastest time of the day – 19.61 seconds! It is a pleasure to watch this pair every week and everyone looks forward to see what the final week brings… Good luck!

The 90cm was the largest class on the day and competition was stiff, but as the fences were adjusted to 90cm the double clears were few and far between – a total of six competitors finished on a clear score, therefore it was down to who did it in the fastest time. Not much separated the overall top six, however, Sienna Dalzell and ‘Diamond’ secured first place for the second week in a row in a time of 21.44 seconds, followed by Beth Taylor and ‘Millyard Bobstar’ in 22.10 seconds.

The day finished with the 1m class, where only one double clear round was achieved and that was from Sienna Dalzell and ‘Diamond’. What a great way to start the weekend, going home with two red rosettes – congratulations!

Thank you to everyone who supported the fifth leg of this six-week league, Hagans Croft hopes to see everyone again this week. Thanks are extended to judge Katy Saunders and to all the stewards, who make the event run so smoothly.

The league continues until Saturday, June 5 – this event is pre-entry only, with entries closing each Thursday at 12 noon prior to Saturday’s event. Times are posted online late on Thursday evening. To qualify for the final in week six, each horse/ pony and rider combination must compete in four out of the six weeks and within the same show jumping class. Competitors must be present at the final to be eligible for league placings. Scoring is based on a points system and details of league scores can be found on Hagans Croft’s website or facebook page. Rosettes are awarded to the first six placings each week and within the overall league placings. Everyone is welcome to compete at the final in week six, with a separate prize giving held for those competing on the day and those competing within the league.

All photography is available to purchase from Black Horse Photography NI.

Entries are taken via Hagans Croft’s website: or download the Hagans Croft App.
