THE Kernan’s NI Indoor Amateur Championship 2019 was held on Saturday, September 7, by kind permission of the Kernan family at The Kernan Equestrian Centre, Crossmaglen, County Armagh.

The Amateur Committee wish to sincerely thank the sponsors for their generous support: Horse First Supplements, Equestrian World Maynooth Winners Rugs, Skyhill Saddlery, Murdock Saddlery, Epic Management Marketing, Equusir Best Box Bio Energetic Scan and Therapy, Crinions Furniture Trim, Showtime Equestrian Trim, SJI and Cavan Equestrian Centre.

LEADING RIDER: Joanna Curran on ‘Intis’ received the Leading Rider prize at the Kernans NI Amateur Indoor Championships from James Kernan. (FW37-575NN)

The first class to kick off the day was the Skyhill Saddlery ‘One Round Speed’ class. Setting a very fast time that no one could catch and taking first place was Jayne Walmsley on ‘Holly Balloo’. Second place went to Donegal man, Seamus Og Campbell on ‘Killymard Flight’, while third went to last year’s “AA” winner, Ian Moore on ‘Triple C’.

The next class didn’t disappoint, the Horse First Power & Speed, which included The Farmers Journal A Championship Qualifier & The Dingos Qualifier saw some great jumping and was won by hot favourite Alexandra Bailey on board ‘Callie LVS’, followed closely by Joanna Curran on her own ‘Intis’ in second.

Course builder James Kernan set a testing Grand Prix track for riders, but it didn’t deter last year’s winner Catherine Drain in the Jump Off.

Two magnificent Perpetual Trophies were presented at the show. The ‘Frank Kernan Memorial Perpetual Trophy’ for the winner of the Horse First ‘Power & Speed’ class was presented to Alexandra Bailey and ‘Callie LVS Z’ for the the second year to win this class! Will Alex produce a ‘Hat Trick’ next year?

The ‘Maggie Murphy Memorial Perpetual Trophy’ for the winner of the Grand Prix was presented to Catherine Drain on her horse ‘Alaska-M’ for the second year running too… Will it be a ‘hat trick’ next year for Catherine?

Leading Rider of the show, sponsored by Equestrian World Maynooth, went to Joanna Curran, who secured places in the Grand Prix and Power and Speed to win a rug and a year’s SJI subscription for rider and horse.

All at Kernan Equestrian Centre wish to extend their sincere thanks to the Amateur Committee, Eileen Duggan, Margaret Fullerton, Roisin Hughes, Lynn Kelly and Joe Hughes for all the hard work that went into making this a very successful and fun day.
