THE 2018 edition of L’Annee Hippique, the International Equestrian Yearbook, has just been published and is now available in Ireland, through exclusive distributor Dermot Forde.
The book is beautifully presented with a new, abstract front cover and the content includes coverage on all the major equestrian happenings around the world throughout the year. It covers FEI World Championships in Jumping, Dressage, Eventing and Driving, which were all held at Tryon, North Carolina, where, of course, Team Ireland came away with the silver medal in Eventing.
There are Q&A sections with various people behind the scenes, including Tryon course designer Alan Wade, who hails from this island, as well as an interview with Irish Independent equestrian correspondent, Louise Parkes.
The 2018 World Cup Jumping and Dressage finals were both held in Paris, while the 2018 World Cup Driving final was held in Bordeaux – all are covered along with interviews with the winners, which make interesting reading.
The book also details 2018 Eventing Classics and the FEI Jumping Nations Cup competitions.
Further coverage of Irish success is reflected by the report on the World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses at Lanaken, where Irish-bred horses swept the boards in the five-year-old final. The equivalent championships for Eventing (Le Lion d’Angers) and Dressage (Ermelo) are also recalled.
Features include the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping, the Best Event Awards, Best Rider/ Driver awards and Royal Windsor Horse Show, among others. There is also a fascinating interview with ‘Captain Canada’, Ian Millar.
Many top level equestrian competitions around the world then get individual attention, with show jumping from Aachen to Zuidwolde; dressage from Aachen to Wellington; eventing from Adelaide to Pau; and driving from Bordeaux to Stuttgart all securing their place in this year’s publication.
The poignant ‘Saying Farewell To’ section pays tribute to a number of well-known inspiring personalities in the equestrian world, who have sadly passed.
As always the informative text in this book is greatly complemented by fantastic and colourful photographs, illustrating the incredible venues, talented horses and amazing riders that are involved in equestrian sport, whatever the discipline.
If you are struggling with Christmas present ideas for horsey-minded loved ones, this book definitely deserves consideration.
