Hellbent, the Northern Ireland producer of South African-style Irish meat products, has won a significant contract from Lidl UK, the leading German discounter, for its original Boerewors coiled sausages here.
Lidl UK has listed the Irish beef sausages from the innovation-led Northern Ireland producer as a special buy starting today (August 25). It’s the latest business won by Hellbent from Lidl.
The processor, formed by Louis Ludik and Schalke van der Merwe, has already supplied meat products, including the award-winning Irish beef coiled sausages, to Lidl Northern Ireland.
The small company has also been shortlisted for the final stage of the sausage category in the influential Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards (IFQA), which will be held in Dublin later in the year.
It has also won recent business for an innovative sausage to Eurospar/Spar in Northern Ireland.
Louis, commenting on the Lidl UK deal, was “delighted to see our business with Lidl extend to other parts of the UK”.
“IFQA is a competition which is closely watched by retailers throughout Ireland and now in Great Britain,” he added.
Hellbent was shortlisted in the prestigious all-Ireland awards for its South African Chakalata coiled beef sausages.
The distinctive sausages are made from 90 per cent Irish beef seasoned with authentic South African Chakalaka curry spice along with onions and tomatoes.
Chakalaka spice is popular throughout South Africa for spicy meals, including breads, stews and curries.
