The Armagh trainer added while en route home: “It was an amazing day. I ran him in the World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last year and it only transpired at a later stage my horses weren’t right, as I discovered after a lung wash they were suffering from aspergillus. The lockdown was a benefit, as it gave them a time for me to sort out the problem and give them a break. I’ll consider going back over hurdles with him – there is a Grade 1 Hurdle at Ascot (Longwalk Hurdle) and one at Haydock – I’ll see how he is and make a decision. My only regret was Kian (McNally) wasn’t there to see him win, as he does most of the work with him. Kian is only 10 years old and too young yet to get at stable staff pass.”

‘The Jam Man’ is now the winner of 11 races – one on the flat, seven over hurdles and three chases – amassing in excess of £180,000 in prize money.
