MP Carla Lockhart has praised Moy Park’s commitment to Northern Ireland, and thanked the firm for their response to Covid-19.
Speaking after a visit to the comany’s premises in Craigavon, the DUP representative said: “Moy Park are a significant employer in Northern Ireland, both directly and indirectly through the supply chain, whether that be growers, feed supply and logistics.
“In Upper Bann the Craigavon site gives hundreds of local people employment and in these turbulent economic times that is a much needed job pool.
“It was good to hear of the company’s vision for their Northern Ireland operation.
“Covid-19 has brought many challenges, with fluctuations in demand across the food industry, whether it be retail or food service, but Moy Park have responded to this and shown their strength as a major player in the UK poultry industry.
“From an employee perspective it was good to see first hand the measures introduced to protect employees and to ensure product is also safeguarded. A huge investment has been made in PPE and that is to be commended.
“Obviously the coming months will see the out-workings of Brexit and I will be working with the company as closely as possible to ensure their operations are supported in this time of change.
“Moy Park is integral to the Northern Ireland economy – a successful Moy Park sees more money spent within our economy, and secure jobs for local people.
“That should be a priority for everyone as we steer through the coronavirus pandemic and it’s consequences.”
