New blood boost for Ulster sheep

The Ulster sheep industry received a big “blood transfusion” with the release from quarantine recently of two importations of pedigree stock.

The consignments, comprising some 18 animals, included Suffolks bought at sales at Kelso and Edinburgh and Border Leicesters purchased at Lanark.

The six Suffolks, all ram lambs, went to Mr William Montgomery, Crossnamuckley, Newtownards, Mr Albert McFerran, Ballywalter, Mr James Ellison, Ballydrain, Comber, Mr R A Bryson, Loughbrickland, and Mrs E Cowan, Leymore, Ballymena.

The Border Leicesters, six ewes and six rams were bought by Mr John Agnew, Ballylagan, Ballynure, Mr Sam Agnew, Mr J H McConnell, Rathfriland, Mr Jacob Horner, Comber, Mr Alex Minnis, Comber, Mr Eric Wright, Castlewellan, Mr William White, Dundonald, and Mr J NB Kirkpatrick, Boardmills.
