PLACED: Cassie Huddleson on ‘Beau’ was placed in the 90cm class at Ardnacashel. (FW43-548NN)

SATURDAY, October 17 saw another week of great jumping at Ardnacashel Equestrian, Comber. Competitors jumped around a professionally built course, which was educating for both horses and riders. Both the warm up arena and the main arena have recently benefitted from the further addition of fibre to ensure even better footing than normal. Facilities are continually maintained and kept in top class condition for all customers to enjoy. A new surface and drains have also been added to the existing Monarch lunge pen for those fresh and young horses, while a new commentary box proved a big hit.

The show kicked off with the cross-pole class and it was encouraging to see so many new young faces attending the smaller classes provided. Two of the younger competitors, Conor and Jamie McCluskey, both jumped double clear rounds in the cross-pole class and the 50cm class. Their mother, Molly McCluskey, was grateful to Lessans Equestrian for the loan of ‘Skippy, the lovely pony they were riding.

DOUBLE: Sophie Truesdale on ‘Annie’ won both the 1.10m and 1.20m classes at Ardnacashel. (FW43-547NN)

The very popular 70cm class was won by Charlotte Nelson on her pony ‘Reggie’ in the Junior section, with Cathryn McCarroll winning the Senior section. Katie Forbes and her pony ‘Dunadeal’ flew into first place in the Junior section of the 80cm class. The Murphy family dominated both the 90cm and the 1m classes, with Roz Murphy and her home produced horse ‘Maloney’ taking top spot in the 90cm and son, James Murphy on his Connemara ‘Noah’ winning the 1m class.

Ardnacashel regular, Gillian Neill took second place on her lovely mare ‘Lily’ in the 1.10m class, while Sophie Truesdale won both the 1.10m and 1.20m classes on ‘Annie’.

Ardnacashel Equestrian will have further unregistered jumping on Saturday, October 24 and Wednesday evening jumping will start on October 28, running for six weeks. Organisers are delighted to start the SJI horse jumping every Wednesday from October 28, starting at 10am. Information regarding these events is available on the website:
