This exciting new league has proved the perfect platform for many of the younger riders, who are making the leap into the competition world. Lucinda Webb Graham was the ideal choice for the dressage section – always positive and hugely encouraging. Junior and senior riders had the choice of competing in the dressage phase only or dressage followed by a round of show jumps.

The Senior Intro class kicked off the day and it was a win for Rosemary McCullough and ‘Burnished Denman’ in the dressage only class.

Niamh Devlin tackled Prelim 1 with cross-poles and performed well for their first ever competition. Darcey Greer and ‘Duke’ recorded a win in the Prelim 1 class with the 50cm jumps, just ahead of Charlotte McAllister and ‘Ruby’ who finished second. Jessica Mulgrew and her lovely new pony ‘Knockagarron Emperor’ jumped a great round at 80cm and scored 70% in the Prelim 1 test.

In the Senior section, it was the turn of Caroline Patton and ‘Dougie’, who excelled themselves and were delighted with their red rosette. Laura Bell and the handsome grey cob ‘Mr Bumble’ impressed the judge and won the 70cm class. Claire Williams had to settle for second place.

Gail McIlwaine and ‘Lexi’ won the 80cm class, while Ellyn McVea and ‘Dare to Desire’ took the honours in the dressage only class.

In the Junior Prelim section, Charlotte McCullough and ‘Burnished Denman’ won the 70cm class, while Phoebe Beaumont and her gorgeous new grey Connie, ‘Mossy’ won the 80cm class. Jill Banford and ‘Slemish Cavalier Two-Step’ performed a solid test and jumped clear to take the win in the Senior Prelim 15 class, leaving Karen Jeffrey and ‘Junior’ to settle for second.

Sam Edgar took the win in the Senior Novice class on her multi-talented grey gelding ‘Ballinderry KJ’. Kacey Pollock and ‘Oscar’ were second; Emma Wallace and ‘Mulla Miracle’ took third.

In the dressage only class, Fiona Young was triumphant with ‘Homegrown Index’. Daughter Georgie Young then went on to win the BD Novice 22 also on board ‘Homegrown Index’.

The last competitor of the day was Angela Penman and ‘Ballymoran Heaven Sent’. They won the Medium 69 class.
