IT was a great night’s ‘craic’ out celebrating Christmas in style with Northern Lights NI Riding Club at their Christmas Show on Friday, December 17 at Causeway Coast and Glens RDA Arena.
Jumping started with cross-poles and it was lovely to see the joy as the riders received their rosettes and it was doubly special for the Club as this was their first show using Club rosettes!
A few riders were riding at their debut show: Chloe Millar from Aghadowey riding ‘Nellie’; Sophie Hogg on ‘Mary’ and Crystal Wilton from Castlerock, all could hardly contain themselves as they rode double clear and the support from everyone added to their enjoyment.
Progressing through the classes, it was lovely to watch as Aoibhínn Kelly, granddaughter of well-known equestrian enthusiast Gabrielle Doherty, showed the progress she has made on her pony ‘Cindy’. Not forgetting Harry Campbell – he is a wee jockey to watch for the future!
Now a special mention has to go to Katie and Alice Harbinson, who very kindly made Christmas cupcakes, which, needless to say didn’t last too long; they were delicious. Both Katie and Alice were the best turned out in their festive gear and it was lovely to see the effort they made – both girls jumped fantastic rounds. Sophie Hogg on ‘Mary’ went fantastically, going clear in all classes. Bronwyn O’Neill was super proud of herself, as she completed her jumping.
Sisters, Crystal and Shanna Wilton were both riding really well and were turned out beautifully. Organisers think these girls are keeping up the family tradition by following bigger sister Tai’s passion for horses.
Rachel Harding and son Joe were on fire; both riding fabulously throughout the night; while Kathryn McCurdy, a volunteer at RDA Causeway Coast Arena, on her horse ‘Hazel’ were in fine form as always. Local rider Rebecca Coulter of R Coulter Equestrian, showed everyone how to do it; riding her pony ‘Milo’.
The Northern Lights NI Riding Club want to express their gratitude to all members and friends that came on the night, even though they weren’t riding and to all those who have supported them in 2021 and made the club the success that it is. Check them out on Facebook at Northern Lights NI.
