ON Tuesday, December 28, the weather could not have been kinder for the Northern Lights NI Riding Club visit to Killymaddy.
It was a dry, crisp day and perfect for hacking. Host for the day, Aimee Torrens, promised a scenic ride and she didn’t disappoint – the Killymaddy views all around as participants rode through the country roads were outstanding.
Aimee’s horse ‘Alfie’ is a baby, though you wouldn’t have known it with how he handled the ride, traffic and generally being out in a group; for a four-year-old, he is the making of a fabulous horse.
As a club, Northern Lights NI like to arrange and meet for hacks and to generally get out and blow the cobwebs away. It had been a while since Kelly Galbraith, Club Chairperson, was in the saddle but the smile says it all as she took the reins for ‘Finn’, a lovely mare by ‘Cruising’. Whilst not able to be in the saddle, Ruth Moore from Dungiven, joined the club prior to the start of the ride and took the opportunity to catch up on the festive capers. Rebecca Coulter of R Coulter Equestrian took the lead for a good bit of the way on ‘Milo’, her young pony who was foot perfect. Kenzie Watt from Aghadowey was in her element riding her home-bred pony ‘Reme’, who celebrated her 27th birthday last May. Sue and Grace Johnston of Riverside Veterinary Clinic, Ballymoney, took a well-earned break from their vet surgery to blow away the December blues.
This opportunity to get out was particularly welcomed, as members were able to show off their new club jackets with logo – Carnroe Supplies very kindly completed the club’s order in record time for Christmas!
