WELL, what can be said about the Northern Lights NI Riding Club show jumping training league? It was amazing, well supported and ultimately, showcased the RDA Causeway Coast and Glens Arena – highlighting that it is ‘the place to be’ for your local equestrian activities.
It was great to see the progress of riders over the league; there was a particular Northern Lights member, namely, Maya Taylor on her pony ‘Tinker’ (aka ‘The Gypsy King’); Maya had been attending the club’s lessons instructed by Kelly Galbraith. Kelly was teaching the junior members about using their arena and during the league it was evident that Maya paid attention; well-done Maya. Lacey McLaughlin always supports events at the RDA and again, it was great to see her progressing with her different ponies. Rebecca Coulter, club member and ambassador for the club is ‘on a roll’ with her new pony ‘Sam’, who is proving to be ‘worth his weight in gold’ and ‘Jake’ never disappointing, as usual.
Neala and Cara Grant both rode ‘Lady P’ and both showed progress was being made. Rose Semple on ‘Prince’ and Violet Semple on ‘Jazz’ like to keep their horsey fun within the family. Madison O’Kane on her trusty steed ‘Flossy’ have come on so much and are proving they are a team to watch!
Another wee jockey that has to get a mention is Caleb Mitchell on ‘Pebbles’, progress could be seen every week. Kenzie Watt has progressed onto her granny’s horse ‘Nellie’, whilst taking her time to bring on the younger horse ‘Finn’; Bronwyn O’Neill and ‘Pippa’ continue on their journey. A quick mention to club members, Rachel and Joe Harding of Corrody Stables, who make the journey to support the club and its events – the club would be lost without their support.
Lastly, a big shout out to non-members that have supported the club, it is really appreciated seeing them at club events. Finally, Margaret in Trotters Café sends her thanks – together with everyone’s support, the club is making a difference to the RDA and the therapeutic and health benefits that they provide to their riders.
As a club, the Northern Lights NI Riding Club are so grateful to everyone that supported them over the weeks. The club’s events have grown over the past year and this has only been possible with the support of both members and non-members. Check them out on Facebook at Northern Lights NI RC and PM any queries (they are affiliated to BHS BRC).
The club’s End of Season Show jumping Show at RDA Causeway Coast and Glens Arena, Coleraine is on this Sunday, August 14, starting at 10am with pony cross-poles; it is estimated that horses will start at 2pm. Entries will be taken on the day, with fabulous prizes (you won’t be disappointed). Two draws will be held for a fabulous horse care hamper and a fruit basket, which will be made up fresh – tickets are £1 per strip or £5 for six strips; these can be bought before the show by making contact via the club Facebook page.
Many thanks to David Larmour for attending the league final to capture competitors in action.
