Outstanding new bacon from Hannan


Hannan Meats, Northern Ireland’s multi award-winning catering butcher, has developed a delicious and innovative smoked bacon.

The company, based at Moira in County Down, has created the new bacon using a smoking technique it has developed for a richly flavoured product that’s aimed at existing and potential customers in high-end restaurants and hotels in Great Britain, the Republic of Ireland and other parts of Europe, especially France.

The business, owned and managed by food entrepreneur Peter Hannan, is already renowned internationally for its unique Himalayan salt-aged beef and lamb and sugar-pit bacon. It supplies these products to many of top international chefs.

“The new bacon is the latest example of our focus on creating original flavours for clients that will enable them to offer their customers deliciously different taste experiences,” Mr Hannan says.

“We smoke the bacon slowly over apple and cherry woods for a unique taste. We experimented with a number of different woods before settling on apple and cherry because this combination produced the distinctive flavour profile that we believed would have the greatest appeal to the chefs that we supply.

The new smoked bacon carries forward the company’s success with its sugar-pit bacon rack in the UK Great Taste Awards, a product which has won acclaim from many of the UK’s most creative chefs.

Hannan Meats is the most successful meat producer in the history of the UK Great Taste Awards and has twice won the coveted Supreme Champion title in the international competition.

It has also won a string of Blas na hEireann, Irish National Food, awards. Other outstanding achievements include dual-Gold, twice, in World Steak Challenge.
