Poots urges rural organisations to avail of RMCGS cash

RURAL Affairs Minister Edwin Poots MLA has visited a Playgroup in County Down to see for himself the benefits of his Department’s Rural Micro Capital Grants Scheme (RMCGS).

Annahilt Playgroup, a voluntary organisation managed by a group of parents, received a £1,399.08 grant through the 2020 scheme towards total project costs of £1,727.26. Through this funding the group was able to purchase a mini trampoline, an Outdoor Puppet Theatre, a 4 piece Gym Set, a Forest Seesaw, a Balance Beam, a Story Telling Chair and a Floor Ladder, in reaction to the increased need to bring their activities outdoors to mitigate against Covid-19.

Minister Poots said: “I am delighted to have visited Annahilt Playgroup to hear of the benefits of the Rural Micro Capital Grant Scheme. The impact that a small amount of grant aid, available through this Scheme makes to a rural organisation is fantastic and I encourage others to avail of the current RMCG, which is open for applications until October 22, 2021.

The Minister continued: “This financial support will enable rural community and voluntary groups to improve or develop their facilities or assets and to recommence service provision. This will help groups in their recovery from the Covid Pandemic and, in turn, contribute to improved community engagement within the local area. Local Rural Support Networks (RSNs) are assisting my Department with the promotion and delivery of the Scheme and so I would encourage all rural organisations to make contact with their local RSN.”

n The RMCGS 2021 opened for applications on Friday, October 1 and will close on October 22, 2021 at 12pm. The online application can be accessed at:
