Following a very successful agricultural poultry show season over the past two months, there is still the Fermanagh County Agricultural Show at Lackaboy, Enniskillen, to look forward to along with two annual poultry fairs.
The Fermanagh County Show is on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 2-3, and is always a wonderful event held in the Farmers’ Market at Lackaboy, Enniskillen.
I have exhibited and judged at this show in the past and always enjoyed it. I often found exhibitors and breeds at this event that I never saw at any other location and was always given a very warm welcome.
The last time I judged at this agricultural event the winning bird was a Call drake which was bred, reared and exhibited by a County Fermanagh exhibitor.
I hope to be back at this event in the not too distant future.
Now to the poultry fairs. So far I have heard of two annual poultry fairs that are planned at this stage.
On Saturday, August 27, the annual Tannaghmore Open Farm Poultry Fair is being held at the usual location, its premises at Silverwood, Craigavon.
This event runs from 8am until 4pm and often attracts a good number of poultry sellers and equipment suppliers as well as potential purchasers.
It’s a lovely day out for the whole family in County Armagh with a range of activities in this lovely location.
The following Saturday, September 3, Davy Kerr from Kircubbin is holding his second poultry fair at his premises at Farm Gate, 26 Inishargy Road, Kircubbin, County Down, BT22 2RG, with stalls of poultry and waterfowl and related products, with gates opening at 7.30am.
Having attended last year, this was a fantastic day out on the Ards peninsula and although we arrived late we had a very successful day moving on a number of pairs and trios of birds as well as meeting up with old friends and seeing many fowl breeds.
There was a fantastic standard of entry at this event. Each seller was given a punnet of strawberries by Davy, which went down a treat.
