CHAROLLAIS were definitely back to Balmoral with a bang, claiming several inter-
breed prizes during the week. Numbers were down in the show ring but that certainly did not affect the quality.
Judge for the Charollais classes was Russell Gray, from Scotland, who picked as his champion the first placed senior ewe from the Lornbrook pen, this ewe purchased from the Logie Durno Flock of the Ingram family.
Lornbrook also claimed the reserve champion Charollais female with the first prize shearling ewe, a daughter of the senior ewe and sired by Findantie Olympic.
Lornbrook also took first and second place in the senior ram class. Winning the red rosette was a strong ram purchased from the Hollylodge Flock of McConnell Brothers. Standing second was a ram purchased privately from Ingrams, sired by Dalby Tuilagi.
The shearling ram class was won by Alistair Moore with Rockdale Wizard, purchased privately from Southern breeder David Argue. Wizard went on to take the male championship and reserve breed championship.
Southern genetics also featured in the second prize winner, Ballyhibbon Wingman, owned joint-
ly by Norman McMordie and the Malcomson family. This ram was purchased at Tullow last year from the Ballyhibbon Flock of Michael Power.
The prize winners of the ram lamb and ewe lamb classes came from Graham Foster’s Springhill pen.
The judge placed a Gwyndy Whizz Kidsired ram lamb of Fosters at the top of the line, followed by Johnnie Aiken with a Ringclare Wildboy Son and in third place Trevor Bell with another strong lamb.
In the ewe lamb class Springhill was again at the top, this smart lamb sired by ‘Boyo Walk this Way’, in second place was another well fleshed lamb from the Lornbrook Flock. Standing third was Alistair Moore with a Padrig Upperclass daughter.
The Group of Three was won by the Lornbrook team with Alistair Moore second.
In the interbreed classes, the Lornbrook senior ewe was reserve champion in the Short Wool Championship. Lornbrook also stood reserve champion in the interbred pairs with its senior ram and senior ewe.
The Hillside Group of Alistair Moore won the interbreed group of three.
Charollais were out in front in all of the interbreed pair classes on the Saturday with Lornbrook winning the Pair of Ram Lambs, Graham Foster winning the Pair of Shearling Ewes and the Pair of Ewe Lambs.
