Procters 14,000 guineas tops at January Gems

THE January Gems sale returned to Ballymena Live-stock Market on Saturday, January 2.

Quality consignments were

on offer from local breeders Chrissy & Martin Mullan (Blue Gates Flock), Adrian Liggett & Brian Williamson (Corbo & Farmhill Flocks), John Trimble (Curley Flock), S&M Warnock (Straidarran Flock) and guest consignment brought out by Jeff, Jennifer, Katie and Robbie Aiken, from Lancashire-based breeder Procters Farm Ltd.

With 100 per cent clearance and 56 per cent of sales over 1000gns, the sale averaged 1897.12gns for 59.

The sale leader came from the Procters Farm Limited consignment, selling a 100K Sportsmans Batman daughter out of a Teiglum Younggun dam for 14,000gns. From a strong family bloodline, her granddam is the renowned Procters Vicki, the dam of 12,000gns Procters Cheeky Monkey and Procters Crystal, Reserve Texel Champion RWAS 2019.

Purchased by C Bellis, Denbigh, Wales, she comes in lamb with twins to world record priced sire 350K Sportsmans Double Diamond. Also from the same pen, the hammer dropped at 11,000gns for another Batman daughter. This gimmer’s granddam is the full sister to 16K Procters Samurai and also comes in lamb with twins to Double Diamond. She joins the local Carmavy Flock of S&J McCollam, Crumlin.

Claiming one of the top six prices in the sale was another from the Procters consignment for a daughter of 12K Fordafourie Balvenie out of a Tophill Union Jack dam which is a full sister to 8K Procters Vagabond. With an index of 211, she ranks in the top 10 per cent with her EBV figures. Scanned with a single pregnancy to Procters Dingle Dollar, a Batman son, she joins Ashley Dickson’s Lonicera Flock, Castlederg.

Featuring in the top prices and claiming the third highest price of the day was Adrian Liggett and Brian Williamson, Corbo & Farmhill Flocks, with their 10K Strathbogie Best Bet Daughter. She is a sister to champion Texel ewe lamb Omagh Show 2019 and out of reserve champion ewe lamb Omagh Show, a 60K Clintery Yuga Khan daughter. She sold in lamb to 3K Tullagh Dragon, a Teglium Braveheart son and sire of 100K Sportsmans Batman and moves South to join Donna Vidal’s Flock in Trim, County Meath.

From the same pen another changed hands for 4200gns to Limavady breeder Martin Warnock for his Straidarran Flock. She is another Best Bet daughter out of a Springwell Viera dam in lamb to 17K Sportsmans Cannon Ball.

The Corbo & Farmhill Flocks also sold the top priced ewe lamb for 2400gns, a Corbo Coors Light daughter out of a Hartside All Star dam sold to join Owen & Liam Donohoe’s Derryvore Flock, Enniskillen.

Sixth in line for the money was John Trimble’s Curley Flock consignment. A Mullan BFG dau-ghter out of one of its Glenside ewes which has bred lambs to 5.2K and females into four figures, cashed in for 3800gns. She sold in lamb to Philip Dodds for his Tullybrannigan Flock, Newcastle, scanned with twins to joint purchased 3.2K Lakeview Dirty Dancer by 15k Harestone Commander and his dam Plasucha show gimmer 2019.

This year’s sale also offered the opportunity for buyers to purchase from a charity auction lot from Graham and Joanne McFarland, Drewmar Flock, County Tyrone, with all proceeds going to the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice. This lot raised 2800gns for the Children’s Hospice. This Tamnamoney Big Horn daughter out of a Ballyhivistock Unique dam sells in lamb to 15K Knock Yardsman and joins S R Glenn’s Flock, Carryduff, County Down.
