THE final qualifier for the RUAS Irish-bred Discovery class was hosted by Lusk Equestrian on Sunday, April 10, in their all-weather arena, starting at 2.30pm.
Lusk’s ran an arena jump mix before the Balmoral Qualifier with 17 jumping efforts for all categories – 70cm, 85cm and 1m. This was well supported, as usual, by the regular attendees of Lusk’s events. It also gave a great opportunity for those at the qualifier to bring their young horses for education and experience.
RUAS sponsors Diane and Barry Gibson, representing Gibson Equine Haylage, run by their son David, were on hand to present the qualifying rosettes.
Janet Murray from North County Dublin was assisted by Vicky White of the RUAS to judge the competitors over the 17-fence course in the main arena. The quality of the horses presented were well above average thus making the three qualifying places difficult to achieve.
After a hearty lunch in the White Horse Cafe, the judges and sponsors were able to weather the elements of a windy and cold April afternoon.
Spectators, were as usual, parked on the upper lane and were able to watch and gossip in comfort.
The arena jump mix took place from 10am and was well supported in the three classes – 70cm, 85cm and 1m, with fierce competition for the winning places and the little brown envelopes and Easter Eggs that came with them!
The next event at Lusk’s will be their annual May Day Show on Monday, May 2, with Working Hunter and showing classes for horses and ponies. A Car Boot Sale is planned for the same day.
