AT the time of going to press, racing at Downpatrick Racecourse this weekend is under question – at best it will take place behind closed doors on Sunday, March 22, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The decision follows statements released from Horse Racing Ireland and the Irish Horse Regulatory Board to follow government guidelines of reducing large gatherings of people at sporting events.
If racing continues it will be streamed on television, but no public access will be granted to racecourses until a review of the decision is carried out. This is in the interest of public safety as public health is of the utmost priority.
Downpatrick Racecourse offer apologies for those that had pre-booked tickets and all tickets will be refunded or re-scheduled for a later date depending on the purchaser’s request.
