SAINTFIELD Santas were not put off by a bit of a damp start on Saturday. By 11.45am, everyone was mounting up, the rain ceased and the sun came out. The cavalcade was headed by Kane’s beautiful horse-drawn carriage with the “Real Santa” on board, following close behind was Fawcett’s beautiful carriage with a number of VIP guests on board and following close behind that were masses of Santas on horseback, all making their way to Saintfield town for the 12th Annual Saintfield Christmas Charity Santa Ride.
Crowds of spectators lined the Main Street to greet the cavalcade, fabulous Christmas music filled the air from the famous country singers, the magnificent Gerard Dornan and Box Car Brian. Terence McKeag introduced VIP guests, who said a few words.
Ride organiser, Joan Cunningham was overwhelmed with the fantastic turnout and said: “A massive thank you to the crowds of well wishers, who came out to support the ride, the Santas who took part, Kane’s and Fawcett’s carriages, Geoffrey and Brian Murphy for the use of their magnificent premises (Saintfield Livestock Mart), Alastair McIlveen of North Down Marquees, everyone who gave donations, marshalls, the PSNI, the media who played a massive role, the ladies who did the catering and every man, woman or child who helped in any way – a very BIG THANK YOU to you all!
“Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year – God bless,” Joan concluded.
