Shining down the centre line at Hagans Croft dressage league

SATURDAY, July 31 saw the fourth leg of Hagans Croft’s six-week dressage league get underway. With a new judge on board, Janice Campbell, competitors were in for a real treat for the Intro and Newcomers classes. Janice was so impressed with the calibre of horse and rider that were entered on the day and the accuracy of tests ridden, that it was clear to see in the marks that were given. Emma Brown was overjoyed with her and ‘Elly Bouncer’s’ score of 79.13%, which awarded them with first place for their efforts and their first ever red rosette – well done!

History was made within the Newcomers class, with Janice awarding Charlie Watson and ‘Master Casper Boy’ with the highest score on record at this venue! Charlie’s test sheet was full of nines, which totted up to a finishing score of 88.33%! And that wasn’t all… The judge’s comments read: “I think this is the best Prelim test I’ve ever judged. Lovely consistent harmony, throughness and rhythm the whole way! Thank you!”

Such wonderful words of encouragement for Charlie and her pony, this certainly calls for a celebratory glass of something fizzy!

It was lovely to see Mark Robinson riding a dressage test at Hagans Croft instead of judging.

And what a beautiful test it was; ridden within the Prelim class on Debbie Burns’s gelding ‘Monty’. The pair finished on a score of 73.41% in first place.

This set them up well going into the Novice class, where again another strong test was ridden in front of judge Stephen Murphy – this time it was second place for Mark and ‘Monty’ with a score of 71.92%. Hannah Blakely and ‘Lougherne Bellissima’ pipped them to the post with 73.65% to claim first place.

A total of three competitors took on the Elementary test, which was the last class of the day. All scores were very close, but Kate McCracken came home with the red ribbon for her strong performance on ‘Spirit’, finishing with 64.82%.

Thank you to all the competitors who supported the fourth leg of this six-week league. Hagans Croft hopes to see everyone again next week. Thanks are extended to judges, Janice Campbell and Stephen Murphy and to all the stewards, who make the event run so smoothly. The league continues every Saturday, August 14 and is open to all competitors, even if you are not wishing to qualify for the league.

To qualify for the final in week six, each horse/ pony and rider combination must compete in four out of the six weeks and within the same dressage class. Competitors must be present at the final to be eligible for league placings.

Scoring is based on a points system and details of league scores can be found on Hagans Croft’s website or facebook page. Rosettes are awarded to the first six placings each week and within the overall league placings. Everyone is welcome to compete at the final in week six, with a separate prize giving held for those competing on the day and those competing within the league.

This event is pre-entry only, with entries via Hagans Croft website or download the Hagans Croft App onto your smart phone. Please see website: www.haganscroft equestrian.co.uk, Facebook or Instagram page for more details or contact Gillian on 07849 106453.
