Show jumping fun in Comber

THE day after the bank holiday didn’t seem to deter anyone from coming to Ardnacashel for a fun evening’s jumping on Wednesday, July 13, with super entries in all classes from cross-poles up to 1.10m.

After some lovely clear rounds in the cross-poles, 50cm and 60cm classes from riders including Sienna Savage on ‘Roxy’ and Ciara McAlea on ‘Bea’, classes progressed to the 70cm, where riders rode the second half of their round against the clock.

In the 70cm class, Bangor rider Poppy Smyth was determined to hold her first place result from the previous week and held the best round until last taking a whopping eight seconds in time off her nearest competitor. She then repeated that amazing result in the 80cm!

In the 80cm class, Maya Constable stole the ride of her mum Kim’s lovely bay gelding ‘Big Cat’ and rode a lovely round to come fourth with one heartstopping moment for her mother, which Maya brushed off before asking to ride in the 90cm class too. Maya then went on to come third in a good 90cm class, however, Abi Gardner with her dun gelding ‘Danny’ proved unbeatable.

Ardnashel regular Sophie Price decided to step up a level and did so with great success, winning the 1m class with ‘Molly’. The evening ended with the 1.10m class, where Kim Constable rode ‘Peter’, achieving a super round.

Mid-week jumping runs again next week and, as always, entries are available via the website: www.ardnacashel equestrian.co.uk. The evening is always relaxed and friendly, with the added benefit of the on site cafe serving hot food.
