SATURDAY, November 17 saw the third leg of Hagan’s Croft’s Dressage League. The Intro and Newcomers classes proved most popular on the day, with some very impressive tests ridden by horse and rider.
In the Intro class, Ellen McDonald and ‘Mario’ strode ahead with a score of 69.52%. Holly Reilly and her 25 years young gelding ‘Just Jake’ trotted into second place with a score of 67.38%, followed by Helen Murphy and ‘Belle’ with a score of 65.71%.
Joanne Gray and ‘Sir Barnabas’ have been improving consistently each week of the league and have been moving up the ribbons in the Newcomers class. This week, she was delighted to be taking home the red ribbon with a great score of 67.5%. Very well deserved! Ellen McDonald was once again in the ribbons and this time it was second for her and ‘Mario’ with a score of 66.88%. Hot on Ellen’s tail was Liz Orr on ‘William’ with only 0.42 of a percent separating them, securing Liz and ‘William’ third place on the day.
No-one could touch Ellen McDonald and ‘Indie’ within the Prelim class, with this pairing achieving the highest score of the day of 74.5% – congratulations! Ben Cousins and ‘Kind of Magic’ was delighted to be coming home with a blue ribbon and a score of 65.5%.
The Novice class was small in numbers although the talent was aplenty. A welcomed face back to Hagans Croft, Heather Graham certainly made her mark with a score of 70% on ‘Flutter Bye’, securing first place and obtaining a red ribbon. Second place went to Clare Orr and ‘Mount Arnie’ and third to Kathryn Huson on ‘Cadi’.
The last class of the day was BD Elementary 50, 2007, where Lynne Robinson and ‘Dermot’ saluted to a score of 69.11%. It was Andrew Ross’s first time competing at this venue, and him and his mount ‘Kinky Boots’ strutted their stuff into second place with 66.96%. Another new face to Hagan’s Croft, Louise Spence and ‘Maverick’ came home on a score of 65% and third place.
Thank you to all the competitors, who supported the third leg of this five-week league – Hagan’s Croft hopes to see you all again next week.
Thanks are extended to the judge, Claire Sedgeman, scribes and stewards and to Black Horse Photography for covering the event. Photographs are uploaded the following day and can be purchased direct from Black Horse Photography N.I’s website.
The League continues every Saturday until December 1. The final is open to all competitors, even if you have not qualified for the league. A separate prize giving will be held for those competing on the day and those competing in the league. To qualify for the final, each horse/ pony and rider combination must compete in three out of the five weeks and within the same dressage class. Competitors must be present at the final to be eligible for league placings; scoring is based on a points system and details of league scores can be found on Hagan’s Croft’s website or facebook page. Rosettes are awarded to the first six placing each week and within the overall league placings.
