Well folks, that is it all over for another year with the new regulations coming into play yesterday (November 17) banning all poultry gatherings.
I was thankful that I had attended Dromore Poultry Show on Saturday.
All roads seemed to lead to Dromore Poultry Show in Loughbrickland with exhibitors travelling from as far as Wicklow to be there.
It was great to see so many poultry exhibitors attending – little did we know this was to be the last show for this year.
It was wonderful to see some members for the first time in over two years.
The Show Champion was shown by Adams and McLaren and was a beautiful Mottled Cochin pullet, which was also Champion large heavy breed.
Young James Weatherup is never far away from Championship Row and also had two birds up there with Best Large Light Soft Feather and also Best Bantam Light Soft Feather.
His Polands were turned out to perfection as usual.
In the Rare Breed section, Adams and McLaren won with their Thuringian cockerel.
In the Heavy Soft Feather Bantam Breed it was good to see one of the longer serving show people, Patricia Swandel, winning with a Barnevelder cock.
Kieran Fitzsimons, a relative new comer to the showing scene, got Champion True with a beautiful Sebright which then went on to gain Reserve Show Champion.
Kieran also won Champion 2021 bird with his Bantam New Hampshire Red.
Another new person on the showing scene was Mark Cairns, winning Best Novice with a Barnevelder hen.
The Juvenile award went to a beautiful Buff Pekin shown by Matthew Donnelly.
A huge thanks to the Dromore committee, especially Pauline Gibson and Judith Lyons, for organising the show, also thanks to the judges on the day, Robert McKibbin and Marc Ruymbeke.
Special thanks to James Hammond for allowing the club to hold their shows at his home.
