THE South Tyrone group was delighted to be awarded the Mary Wilson Trophy for the Best Ulster Farmers’ Union Group Performance in 2021.
It was presented to Wendy Kerr and Alison Donaldson at the UFU annual dinner in March at the La Mon House Hotel.
It has been wonderful to see the group grow, with both new and existing members getting involved in a variety of group activities from meetings, social events and competitions.
One such event which was attended by members was the climate change protest at Stormont in February.
Members from the group travelled by bus to Stormont to urge MLAs to vote for the Executive’s Climate Change Bill and not to amend the targets within it as it would have been detrimental to farmers and the rural economy.
The South Tyrone group would like to congratulate Stephen McAlister, Summerhill Farm, on winning the Alternative Forage section of the 2021 UFU silage competition. It’s wonderful to see members getting involved in
these competitions and doing so well.
The next upcoming event for the group will be the cereals competition, which will start with the winter barley. If you would like to enter or even just give it a go, the closing date for entries for this part of the competition is Friday, June 10. Anyone who would like to enter the oats, winter wheat or spring barley competition, the closing date for entries will be Friday, July 8.
Please contact the office on 028 8772 5973 to enter or if you would like further information regarding the competition, or send a message on the Facebook page.
The South Tyrone Group will shortly begin planning the winter programme. If you have any ideas for group meetings or would like to get involved in the group, please contact the office.
There is a busy summer planned for the South Tyrone Group with the group office taking a stand at the Clogher Valley Show and it will be wonderful to see members again at the event, which has not taken place since 2019. Please feel welcome to call at the stand for refreshments and a chat with the presidential team.
The South Tyrone Group has the great privilege this year to organise the County Tyrone Annual Dinner, which will take the form of a BBQ on Friday, September 23, at the Glen Park Estate. South Tyrone chairperson Chris Gill is also the County Tyrone chairperson. The group looks forward to seeing many members and their families at the BBQ.
