Robert Shaw and his father Austin are well known for their successful breeding and showing of OEG poultry.
They are also very accomplished judges and always very willing to advise any novices in the Fancy.
Robert trained as a joiner and saw a gap in the market for good quality, purpose-built poultry housing.
This grew into a thriving business which now has a catalogue of 50 different housing options for poultry and waterfowl.
We have purchased two coops and are delighted with them.
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs recognised the quality and service provided at Fairmount Coops. It asked Robert to showcase a coop he specially designed to keep birds safe from predators and wild birds, particularly during the dreaded avian bird flu season. This was included on its stand at Balmoral Show.
A lot of dairy farms around Northern Ireland have milk vending machines. Robert has been able to fill a niche here as well.
He has supplied housing for free range hens to many of these businesses. The eggs produced are then sold through their machines.
One of his Presidential Coops was shown on Countryfile at the Lilburn’s Brookvale Farm.
Not happy to stop there, Robert has designed a very functional honesty box great for supplying folks in your locality with first class fresh farm eggs.
Further developing the business, he now has a one stop shop. Robert supplies POL pullets, drinkers, feeders, minerals, etc.
If any of you know Robert you will appreciate his comment when I asked him what all he sells: “The shirt off my back if I’m bid right.”
