NEXT Tuesday, July 28, at Ballymena Livestock Mart, is the date set for the Premier Export Sale of pedigree Suffolk shearlings and ram lambs with over 100 top class males forward from over 30 breeders available to meet the needs of pedigree and commercial flock owners alike.

Commenting on the forthcoming sale, NI Branch Chairman Alastair Barkley said: “The NI Branch Premier Sale on the 28th July gives the commercial farmer and breeders the first opportunity to select from the top pick of NI Suffolk breeders’ ram lambs.”

Looking at the catalogue, ram lambs included for sale are sired by some of the breed’s top rams, namely 43,000gns Birness Muzza, 13,000gns Lakeview Heart of Gold, 10,000gns Birness Hustler, 9,500gns Limestone Legacy, 8,000gns Burnview Hitman, 8,000gns Lakeview Innuendo, 6,800gns Strathbogie Im Invincible, 6,000gns Strathbogie A Kind of Magic, 5,500gns Birness Murray, 5,200gns Limestone Lets Ride, 4,500gns Middlemuir Commander, to name but a few of those represented.

There will be stock on offer to suit every pocket and with the quality of sires used it’s no wonder that the Suffolk breed is experiencing a renaissance as a consequence of the breed’s proven characteristics of superior growth, rate early maturity and excellent conformation, giving commercial customers a healthy return in tight times.

Seamus McCormick, Senior Agribusiness Manager at Danske Bank, said: “The Suffolk Society’s Premier Export Sale in Ballymena is a showcase event for Suffolk breeders in Northern Ireland and Danske Bank is delighted to be once again sponsoring this event.

“A popular terminal sire for pedigree and commercial producers, the Suffolk breed remains at the forefront of the market. Given this is the first pedigree Suffolk sale in 2020 and the current steady performance within the sheep sector, I am hopeful of a very successful sales ring for all breeders.”

Seamus added: “With no shows having taken place this year, the Premier Sale presents the first opportunity for breeders to exhibit their fine stock, and no doubt the Suffolk breeders will not disappoint. Danske Bank would like to wish all exhibitors the best of luck at this year’s sale and in other events throughout the remainder of the year.”

Sale commences at 2pm.

All sheep will be eligible for immediate export on the day of the sale.

If any prospective purchaser has any queries they should contact Breed Secretary Orla Butler on 07841 117252.
