ILDRA returned to Shane’s Castle on July 24 for a day of pleasure riding and vetted pleasure rides. Despite the damp and drizzly weather the keen riders weren’t deterred from heading out on the trails at Shane’s.
The trails at Shane’s Castle offer views towards Lough Neagh and routes taking in the nearby Randalstown Forest before returning back into the main Shane’s Castle Estate riding along the River Maine.
Several riders also opted to take part in vetted pleasure rides (VPRs) at Shane’s Castle, allowing them to explore their horse’s fitness and learn more about the endurance vetting process.
Thanks go to the ride organiser Kirsten Conly and to David Cunningham for marking the route, thanks also go to the several helpers on the day – Declan Lynch, Julie Garvin, Clare Walker, Mary Letch, Jenny Marshall and Ros Morcombe. Thanks also go to the O’Neill family and Shane’s Castle Estate staff for allowing access and for the Forestry Service for allowing access to Randalstown Forest.
