Sun comes out for Hagans Croft league

- Advertisment -

AFTER two weeks of rain, the sun finally came out on Saturday, May 22 for the fourth leg of Hagans Croft’s Show jumping League. 10 competitors took on the cross-poles class, with eight achieving double clear rounds, nonetheless all those within the cross-poles went home with a rosette.

Moving on to the 50cm class, where the second part of the course was timed over fences nine to 12. It was first place for Maisie Elliott and ‘Moonlight’ in a time of 28.03 seconds, followed by Olivia Rodgers and ‘Motivator’ in second place.

In the 60cm class, Charlie Watson and ‘Master Casper Boy’ achieved another beautiful clear round for the second week in a row. The pair had a steady rhythm throughout the course and successfully executed all turns within the timed section of the course, finishing in a time of 24.03 seconds, nearly six seconds ahead of all other competitors and deserving of their red ribbon!

Placings were hotly contested in the 70cm class, with 0.23 seconds separating the top two placings. Tipping into first place was Alana Eadie and ‘Knocklishen Willow’, followed in second place by Charlotte Nelson riding ‘Reggie’.

The 80cm class was the largest on the day, with a total of 17 competitors battling it out for the top six placings. Zara Smyth and ‘Charlie’ held their top spot for a fourth consecutive week in a row, pulling off a faultless double clear in a time of 23.95 seconds. This fourth win within the 80cm class has almost secured their place for the league, but with two weeks left, will anyone be able to tip them off the top spot?

A new face to compete at Hagans Croft, Sienna Dalzell and ‘Diamond’ certainly made their mark on the 90cm class, not only finishing first within a competitive class of 16 competitors, but also achieving the fastest time on the day of 22.4 seconds. The pair were delighted with their performance and their red rosette.

The final class of the day was the 1m class and, as the fences were raised, the double clears were fewer and harder to achieve. With only two competitors finishing on a double clear, Mia Dickson and Daisy Gillespie, it was down to who did it in the fastest time and that was Mia on her bay gelding ‘Rafa’, who came home in a time of 26.23. Daisy and ‘Caebryn Flying Wild’ finished in a time of 29.44 seconds to claim second place.

Thank you to everyone who supported the fourth leg of this six-week league – Hagans Croft hopes to see you all again next week. Thanks are extended to judge Katy Saunders and to all the stewards, who make the event run so smoothly. The league continues until Saturday, June 5; this event is pre-entry only, with entries closing each Thursday at 12 noon prior to Saturday’s event. Times are posted online late Thursday evening.

To qualify for the final in week six each horse/ pony and rider combination must compete in four out of the six weeks and within the same show jumping class. Competitors must be present at the final to be eligible for league placings. Scoring is based on a points system and details of league scores can be found on Hagans Croft’s website or facebook page. Rosettes are awarded to the first six placings each week and within the overall league placings. Everyone is welcome to compete at the final in week six, with a separate prize giving held for those competing on the day and those competing within the league.
