NINETY-THREE members of Iveagh Pony Club attended Easter Pony Club camp from April 19 to 21.
The children, aged from three years old to 18 years old had three days of great instruction, including a cross-country lesson at Duke’s cross-country.
65 parents volunteered their time – cooking, cleaning, donating and parking to make the camp a success for the children.
The camp organisers Lisa Trainer, Sandra Morton and Jayne Doherty were motivated to make the camp as special as possible for the kids. The sun shone for three days and it was wonderful to see the kids improving.
Vanne Campbell, who recently turned 80 years old and has been involved and at the helm of Iveagh Pony Club for over 40 years, said: “Camp was a great success. Easter camp is important for new friendships to form between the kids, which is one of the things we cherish most at Pony Club.”
Each child got a prize of a bucket and sponge at the end of camp, which proved useful in the water fight that ensued!
Iveagh Pony Club is one of the largest in the UK and has over 300 members. It has had incredible success over the years at the UK Pony Club championships. It’s philosophy is to help children develop a lifelong love of horses through fun, friendship, horsemanship and sport.
Many new members begin with very little knowledge of pony care and other more experienced members guide them. From little acorns grow great oaks and some of these children grow up to be champions in their sport.
The activities at camp included flatwork, show jumping, working hunter coaching, cross-county and Gwen Kerton gave her expertise in Pony Club games coaching.
Two Iveagh Pony Club members will represent the Northern Ireland Games Team at Royal Windsor Horse Show in England on May 14 and 15.
