THE Ulster Farmers’ Union has met with members of the TB Eradication Partnership to discuss the current TB eradication policy, the consultation responses received by DAERA and how the TBEP plans to roadmap actions going forward.
The UFU impressed upon the TBEP its frustration and concern with the on-going failure of the current TB eradication policy.
The UFU acknowledged that given the breadth of opinions within the consultation responses, and the current local political impasse at Stormont, that the members of the TBEP will have a considerable challenge ahead of them.
It did, however, urge the TBEP not to shy away from the difficult decisions. The problem must be addressed holistically and that means they must not be afraid to address all local reservoirs of the disease. Be it in cattle or wildlife.
Moving forward, the UFU hope to engage positively and constructively with the TBEP as it is only by working in partnership that TB can be addressed and eradicated.
