ALTHOUGH it has been a truncated season for Hereford breeders in Northern Ireland, they were able to award their Sire of the Year for 2020.
The accolade was won by Moeskaer Upgrade from John & William McMordie’s Solpoll herd at Ballygowan, County Down.
This award is to the sire of the highest priced cattle at the association sales in Northern Ireland. His sons took the top price at the December and February sales in Dungannon, setting a new record average of 3950gns.
Privately purchased in Denmark, he has excellent figures with 16 out of the 17 traits all above average and 10 of those in the top 10 per cent. He certainly proved a strong addition to the Solpoll herd.
The next sale of pedigree Herefords will be on Tuesday, April 20, at Dungannon Farmers’ Mart, where a strong showing of Hereford sires will be put forward.
