Featuring some of the nation’s most glorious countryside, a two-part series on Channel 5 celebrates our love of a good farm shop.
Local honey, traditional pots of jam, artisan cheeses, venison and delicious prime cuts from estate-reared livestock are all featured in the series, Britain’s Poshest Farm Shop, as it explores seven of the finest farm shops in the country.
We meet the different owners and dedicated staff that work in these foodie paradises, who share their passion for the very finest produce and the ultimate farm shop experience – a charming rustic world where everything is beautifully presented and fresh as can be!
In the first episode, broadcast at 8pm on Friday, August 12, we see how, as much of the high street has faltered in recent years, the nostalgic appeal of a traditional countryside corner shop has continued.
These charming rural delis have stormed to retailing success.
This episode features three outstanding but very different farm shops in north Wales, Devon and Lincolnshire.
In rural Wales we discover the ambitions of Lord Newborough, 8th Baron of the Rhug Estate and owner of the estate’s prestigious farm shop.
The shop boasts well-known customers that even include the Royal family.
Stocked with estate reared livestock that includes surprises like bison burgers and salt marsh lamb, in this episode the eccentric lord introduces his first foray into the world of luxury skincare products, made from ingredients harvested and foraged from his estate.
In Lincolnshire, on the historical Doddington Estate, we find out the secret to the picturesque farm shop’s steady supply of fresh fruit and veg.
Hard-working owner Claire Birch, whose family have lived in the grand Doddington Hall for around 400 years, shares a sneak peak of the estate’s ancient and sometimes hilarious recipe archive.
We also meet the Nepalese Gurkha turned cowboy responsible for caring for the estate’s heritage herd of Lincoln Red cattle.
In Devon, Darts Farm Shop is a family affair, and we meet the youngest generation taking on the business.
They’re out in the fields harvesting the fresh produce and in the shop itself – keeping it looking tiptop for customers.
The farm shop already features a trendy gelato counter and a spa, and we follow the opening of a new rooftop bar. Which is all a long way from what you’d expect from a farm shop.
