A convoy of vehicles left Kilkeel very early on Sunday, June 19, making their way to Knockagh View Equestrian Centre, Greenisland to participate in the NI Riding Club Championships.
Senior rider Charley Hanna on her horse ‘Far Hill Golden Angel’ took the first title by winning the 1.05-1.10m class and also recorded the fastest time of the day. The club had four riders in the 85cm Senior class: Caroline Clingan on ‘Angus Baby’; Lauren McGrath on ‘Make it Pop’ and Charley Hanna on her second mount of the day ‘Far Hill Captain Harry’, picked up some faults along the way, but it was Chloe Flynn on ‘Bannfield Beauty’ who stormed to victory to take the win.
Two junior riders, sisters Lily Rose and Ellie Mae McGinn took part in the 75cm Junior class, with Lily Rose producing a double clear to win the class on ‘Gamekeepers Secret’ and Ellie Mae coming a well deserved third place on ‘Lislaird Giggles’.
Caitlin Steenson on ‘Shirley’ competed in the 75cm Senior class, jumped superbly but just missed out on the placings.
In the last event of the day, the senior team event, once again Caroline, Charley, Lauren and Chloe jumped their way to sixth place.
The club wishes to thank everyone for their help and support on the day and especially Chef d’Equipe Jason Hanna. The countdown is on for the club’s annual shows in July. Saturday, July 23 is the Silver Show jumping Show, with the Showing and Working Hunter being held the following Saturday, July 30. For further information, contact the club via Facebook.
