SATURDAY, February 9 saw the third leg of Hagans Croft’s dressage league and after Storm Erik, the sun was out and so were Hagans Croft’s Dressage competitors!
A total of 11 competitors turned down the centre line for the Intro class, which was a Pony Club walk, trot test. The youngest competitor, Robyn McMurray and ‘Royanna’ rode a superb test, scoring 73.7% and were awarded first place for their efforts! Katie Burns and ‘Monty’ travelled all the way from Tyrone and their efforts certainly paid off, when they bagged a second place rosette with a score of 69.33%.
There were only two competitors in the Newcomers class, so Sapphira Murphy and Emma Russell were battling it out for the top spot. With only point 47 of a mark separating both competitors, the scores were very close. However, scoring 62.85% and first place was Sapphira Murphy on her chestnut mare ‘Grace’, followed by Emma Russell on ‘Fidele’ with 62.38%.
There was some top scoring within the Prelim class, with the top four competitors scoring above 70% and, with the highest score of the day, Rachel Freil and ‘Alghan Nipper’ placed first with 74.5%. Well done to them! Keva Milligan and ‘Kings Appraisal’ scored 72.75%, which earned them second place for their efforts.
In previous weeks Novice class, Katie Patterson and ‘Rocky’ have been in second place, however this week they stepped it up a notch, achieving the top spot with 69.19%. Not far behind was Antoinette Milligan on ‘Kings Appraisal’ with 68.87% and second place. It was a successful day out for the Milligan mother-daughter duo, both coming home with blue ribbons.
The Elementary class was small in numbers, but the talent was aplenty. Erin Burns had a change of mount for this class, ‘Caracus’. They certainly made an impression in front of judge Lucinda Webb, with a great score of 70.4%, claiming the red ribbon. It was certainly a successful day at the office for Erin, well done!
Thank you to all the competitors who supported the third leg of this five-week league and Hagans Croft hopes to see you all again next week.
Thanks are extended to the judge Lucinda Webb, scribe Coreen Abernethy and stewards Carol, Sadie and Charlie and to Black Horse Photography for covering the event. Photographs are uploaded the following day and can be purchased direct from Black Horse Photography N.I’s website.
The League continues every Saturday until February 23. The final is open to all competitors, even if you have not qualified for the league. A separate prize giving will be held for those competing on the day and those competing in the league. To qualify for the final, each horse/ pony and rider combination must compete in three out of the five weeks and within the same dressage class.
Competitors must be present at the final to be eligible for league placings. Scoring is based on a points system and details of league scores can be found on Hagans Croft’s website or facebook page. Rosettes are awarded to the first six placings each week and within the overall league placings.
