SATURDAY, February 12 saw another week of hoof-perfect tests ridden, resulting in more top marks across the board for a second consecutive week at Hagans Croft, between Lisburn and Ballynahinch. Starting off with the Intro class, once again the top two placings remained the same, however, a massive improvement of the overall percentage was awarded. Cairlinn Carroll and ‘Carlingford’s Chance’ took first place with 82.39%, followed by Daniel O’Sullivan Toner and ‘Quint’ with 81.74% in strong second.
Ellie Johnston and ‘Moreno VIII’ improved on their score from last week’s Newcomers Prelim class and once again they held onto the red ribbon for a second week with their score of 77.37%. Shauna-Lee McCann and ‘Frederick’ made their dressage debut this week at Hagans Croft and they certainly made their mark on the Newcomers class, with a score of 71.58% and second place.
It was then on to the Prelim class, where once again Jaemi Cochrane held the top spot on ‘Tyrella Penelope Pit Stop’ and, with a score sheet full of 8s for individual movements, nothing could deny them their score of 80%. Judge Fiona Young wrote some lovely comments on Jaemi’s score sheet: “What a fab partnership, working so well today. A complete joy to watch!”. Lauren Ferguson and ‘Sherbet Dip’ had another test sheet that had an impressive row of 8s for their medium walk, working trot and working canter, therefore very deserving of second place for their score of 78.54%.
The Novice class saw a British Dressage Novice 28 test ridden by a total of five competitors, all of whom rode their three loop serpentines perfectly and placed their 15 metre half circle with ease. With the top four competitors scoring 70 percent and above, the scoring was tight, however Kate Russell and ‘Bingo’ pipped everyone to the post with a score of 76.88% and first place. Shenade Duggan and ‘Henry’ were not far behind with another great score of 74.79% and second place. Organisers cannot wait to see how this pair progress throughout the league.
Victoria McCandless and ‘Koolstyle’ had it in the bag in the Elementary class from the off. Finishing on a score of 67.4% and first place – well done!
