THERE was an excellent turnout of top quality beef cattle at the RUAS Beef and Lamb Championships on Tuesday.
With the sale running late into the evening, the highlight was the sale of the champion breeding heifer, exhibited by James Alexander from Randalstown, which fetched £10,000, selling to Ivan Lynn from Armoy, who had earlier sold a number of animals in a strong trade.
The supreme champion from JCB Commercials in County Down sold for £6,500 to Kitson family butchers in Yorkshire while the Ulster Housewife’s champion from Robert Millar, Moneymore, sold for £3,000 to Garry Jennings from the Mayfly in Kesh.
The other top award on the night was for the champion calf, which went to Joseph McCarragher from Armagh, selling to Norman McCleary from Augher for £2,900.
In the lamb section, the top pair of butcher’s lambs was shown by Jamie McCutcheon of Trillick with reserve going to S and J Smyth, Newtownstewart.
