Top trade for Glenroe Texels

POPULAR: Top priced ram lamb from Peter Boyd, Poseyhill Texels, sold at 620gns.

THE Northern Ireland Texel Breeders’ Club held its annual Club Sale at Swatragh Livestock Mart recently. The club wishes to thank Farmware Supplies for its ongoing support despite no pre-sale show this year.

Taking the top spot for trade was a shearling ram from Sean McCloskey, Claudy. Selling to L McTeague, ‘Glenroe Chief’, a Foyle View son out of a Drumgooland Unleashed daughter, sold to the top price of the evening at 940gns.

Next in line for the shearling trade was Brian and William McAllister’s Artnagullion flock, Kells. Their Midlock Yohann son out of a Langside Stifler mother, ‘Artnagullion Champ’, sold to Sean Mullan for 720gns. From the same pen this shearling’s full brother came close behind at 680gns to Gerry O’Hagan.

Keeping the trade alive was the McKinney Bros, Maghera, with their Heathmount consignment. ‘Heathmount Cavier’, a Dev-eronvale Brave One son out of a Hexel Yukon Gold daughter, sold for 640gns. Taking the same money was ‘Drumiel Columbo’ from Kieran McAfee, Aghadowey, to A Jamieson. He is an Arkle Best Bet son out of an Arkle Wildfire daughter.

Claiming the top spot for prices for a ram lamb was Peter Boyd, Poseyhill Texels, Ballyclare. Taking 620gns for ‘Poseyhill Dexter’, a Harestone Cool Kid son out of a Knock Travis ewe, he sold to Eugene Kelly.

Coming in close behind was Magherafelt breeder Shaune Duggan’s lamb ‘Drumard Hill Dan’. This Mullan Aguero son out of a Springwell Young Blood dam sold for 580gns to T Kelly.

Taking 560gns from A Ferguson for a Procters Cocktail son was Coleraine breeder Roger Strawbridge for ‘Tamnamoney Dave’. From the same pen ‘Tamnamoney Dec’, a Scotsman Ace son out of a Tophill Yankee Boy, sold to Ian Laughlin for 540gns.

Making the same money was Cookstown breeder James Wilkinson with ‘Ballygroogan Despite’, a Strathbogie Best Bet out of a Kiltariff Vagabond ewe, selling to Norman Mullan.

Overall quality lots met with steady trade with 15 shearling rams selling to average 560gns with a 94 per cent clearance rate. Ram lambs sold to average at 410gns for 33 lots with an 89 per cent clearance rate.
