SATURDAY, July 21 saw bumper entries at Hagan’s Croft Equestrian for the third leg of their five-week dressage league. With over 70 entries, competition was stiff throughout the day within all five classes from Intro to Elementary level.
The day began with a Dressage Ireland Intro test, where the first rider of the day Carol Henry and her handsome 17.2hh gelding ‘Trendseeker’ came out of retirement to ride up the centre line to a fabulous score of 67.5%. This was an obvious achievement for the pair, with tears of joy to be seen! Patrica Martin just lost out on the red ribbon. With the same percentage score as Carol Henry, a point difference on collective marks separated the pair, which awarded Patricia and ‘Bella’ the blue ribbon.
Within the Newcomers class, nothing could separate Susie Kinley and Veronica Ham, as both competitors were sitting on the same percentage of 67.62, same collective mark of 34 and same walk mark of 7 – therefore joint first place was awarded along with a beautiful red ribbon each!
The highest score of the day came from Sarah Irvine and her chestnut roan gelding ‘Harry’ within the Prelim class. Finishing on a score of 72.5%, this secured Sarah and ‘Harry’ the top spot. Lynsey Sneddon rode a very positive Prelim test on her bay gelding ‘Kenny’ and was awarded 69.38% and second place for their efforts.
The fourth class of the day saw a Pony Club Novice dressage test being ridden by a total of 12 competitors. Once again, Sarah Irvine and ‘Harry’ could not be knocked off the top spot, with another commendable score of 71.8%. This time it was Rachel Freil and her black beauty ‘Alghan Nipper’, who stormed into second place with 66.8%.
The final class of the day was a British Dressage Elementary test and it was fantastic to see a few new faces to Hagan’s Croft riding within this class, although it was Elaine Morrow and ‘Ardenza Gem’ who rode an exemplary test in front of judge Mark Robinson to be awarded the red rosette with a score of 66.83%. A new face to Hagan’s Croft, Danielle Hammond and ‘Tanino’ certainly made their mark within the Elementary class, achieving a score of 64% and second place.
Springmount Farm, one of Hagan’s Croft league sponsors provided over 20 half dozen boxes of eggs, which were given out as spot prizes to competitors. Names were drawn out of the hat throughout the day and competitors were delighted with this added bonus to their day. The following morning, Hagan’s Croft received pictures of competitors enjoying everything from french toast to scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast!
Thanks are extended to the judges, Coreen Abernethy and Mark Robinson, scribes and stewards. Thanks also to Black Horse Photography for covering the event and to all the competitors and spectators who supported this event. Thanks are extended to the League Sponsors, Bluegrass Horse Feeds and Springmount Farm Free Range Eggs.
