Last Sunday, August 13, the
largest one-day show in Ireland, the Tullamore Agri-
cultural Show, was held
at Butterfield Estate, Tulla-more, County Offaly.
This huge event attracted entries from the length and breadth of the island and also hosted the Red Mills All Ireland Poultry Championship.
Some of our local poultry ex-hibitors travelled to this event with their quality birds and I was so pleased to learn that Geoff Weir, who keeps great birds, had won the supreme Show Champion award with one of his amazing Large Black Orpington cockerels, with his White Pekin cockerel winning the Reserve Show Champion award.
On top of this Geoff’s entry won the Red Mills All Ireland Poultry Championship Show, with another bird taking the fourth place prize.
These are fantastic results for Geoff, who is such a nice guy and puts a lot of effort into his birds. Time after time he rears exceptional birds in the breeds that he keeps. Really well done, Geoff.

The organisers, exhibitors and the judge Ciara Sweeney should be congratulated for all the hard work that they put into this successful show, which helps to showcase all the wonderful yesteryear fowl breeds.
