Tydavnet Agricultural Show poultry section

LAST Saturday, August 20, the annual Tydavnet Agricultural Show was held in Scotstown, County Monaghan.

Poultry keeper Michael Sherlock, who is well known for his quality Oxford Game, organised a poultry section show a few years ago and it was great that the poultry section returned this year. Michael kindly forwarded the photographs and main results to me.

This event started away back in 1950 and it is great to see that the community gets together each year to run this show. This year’s poultry section show was kindly judged by Brian McAdam who

has kept poultry for a number of

years now and has judged at a range of events.

Some exhibitors travelled good distances to be at this event. Although numbers were down there were still a lot of quality, well turned out birds on display with the overall champion being won by Ryan McLaren’s German Pekin, who had travelled from County Tyrone and was awarded the Monaghan Poultry Club shield.

Reserve champion was a Dutch bantam exhibited by Daniel Beggan and the Sean Cadden cup was won by Michael McCarra.

This is definitely a summer show that poultry keepers should put in their diary as they will receive a warm welcome at the Tydavnet show.
