Vintage member in charity sea dip

A familiar face in the local vintage scene, Hazel Edgar is raising funds for the Friends of Cancer Centre at the Belfast City Hospital by taking part in a sea dip at Ballygally on Sunday, September 19.

Hazel, along with son Stuart and father James Harkin, are members of the Braid Valley Vintage Enthusiasts Ltd.

The dip will take place one day before the first anniversary of the death of Hazel’s mother Martha Harkin. As Hazel explained: “Around three weeks before Mum passed away we were down in Ballygally and she said that maybe someday I’d conquer my fear of the sand and the sea.

“I’ve always had a phobia of the sand and the sea. I’ve thought about it and what better way to conquer it than raise money for charity.”

Sponsor sheets will be available from Hazel at the Braid Valley’s annual tractor road run in Broughshane on Saturday, September 11.
