ON Saturday April 2, Coleraine YFC Annual Parent’s Night returned, after disruption due to Covid 19 restrictions halted last year’s celebrations. The night was held in Portrush Town Hall, where club members provided entertainment for families and friends.
The evening began with President of Coleraine YFC, Kirsty Dunn, outlining the achievements of the club during this year, including celebrating their 90th Anniversary and claiming many awards at the County Londonderry Dinner Dance.
Guest speaker, Lynne Montgomery, from City of Derry YFC, also highly praised the club for its successes during the year. Being on the YFCU presidential team, Lynne encounters Coleraine YFC at many competitions and understands the members’ dedication and effort they put into every task.
After the speeches the club moved on to the prize giving. After a successful year, the competition was extremely high.
The first award was the JR Jackson Cup for Most Active Member, claimed by Club Secretary Cara Millar, who also won the William King Cup for craft.
Club leader Ruth Adams came away with the Lynn Cup for Stockjudging. Ivanna Strawbridge won the Victor Ramsey Cup for CEO Participation, the McNaugher Cup for Junior Endeavour, the Henry Cup for Girls Competitions and the Valerie Cochrane Cup for Junior Craft.
Sarah Smyth came away with the Mervyn Moody Cup for Most Aspiring Member and Chloe Jeffers claimed the Stevenson Cup for Most Improved Member. A total of 20 members were also awarded with their Proficiency badges.
The entertainment followed the prize giving. Stephanie Millar began by delivering her Public Speaking speech which was placed second in the finals, followed by Aaron Kennedy who demonstrated his musical theatre talents by singing ‘Stars’ from Les Miserables.
After the interval, four girls took to the stage to perform a short play which was followed by some games to get the parents and friends involved. After, Chloe and Stephanie Millar showed off their musicality by singing and the evening closed with a poem.
The club would like to thank all the parents and friends who came along to celebrate the accomplishments of the members and the club this year. Here’s to 2022-23!
