FOLLOWING a long, dark winter and the lockdown due to current Covid restrictions, show jumping made a welcome return to the Meadows Equestrian Centre, Lurgan for SJI Horse and Pony Training, thanks to some executive relaxations.
Competing in ‘pods’ of 14, horses (Saturday, April 17) and ponies (Sunday, April 18) kept the Meadows busy last weekend, with over 200 entries each day. Thanks to the spacious facilities at the Embankment Road complex, both days went without incident.
Under ‘SJI Training’, SJI members of all calibres are permitted to jump, so this enables all riders to get up to speed before the competitive season hopefully returns later this Spring or early Summer by the latest.
In the horse training series at the Meadows, classes range from 80cm up to 1.30m, whereas a full schedule of events for 128 (50cm- 1m), 138 (80cm- 1.10m) and 148cm (80cm- 1.20m) ponies is available during pony training days.
Horse training continues this Friday, April 23, as part of the Meadows Spring Championships.
For ponies, the next leg of the series will take place on the May Day Bank Holiday, Monday, May 3.
