DESPITE incessant rain on Saturday night, all competitors turned up for the Sunday Derby at Lusk’s. The first class, the 1 metre, started promptly at 10am with a few puddles remaining from the overnight rain, however the going rode perfectly for the eager riders over the 17-fence derby course, with a total of 21 efforts. Sharlene Scott was standing in for Fran Warden, who had fallen and broken her arm the previous Friday.
There were eight competitors through to the jump off of six fences, but it was Kate McLoughlin on ‘Bo’, showing how her Eventing experience this season has paid off, riding a calculated round to take the win.
The 85cm class, always the biggest of the day, produced 10 clears for an exciting jump off, with the win going to Kerry Parkhill on ‘Elsa’, who warded off the speedy ponies!
The most exciting class of the day was the 70cm, with all the parents on the sidelines loudly cheering the children, some as young as eight, when they got a clear round.
Charlotte Glen on ‘Lily’ led the way to beat off Poppy McMurray on ‘Willow’ and Lily Murphy on ‘Rex’.
Lusk’s take a week off before starting their four-week Dressage League on November 14 – as usual, entries should be placed with Sarah on 07840 117132.
Team Lusk wish Fran a speedy recovery and hope she is back in time for the dressage!
