FARMERS and contractors looking to run a 114-140hp tractor with versatile stepless transmission next year should call on the Argo Tractors stand 8.604 at the LAMMA show in January (7th-8th), where they could win one!
Argo Tractors is offering free 12 months’ use of the award-winning McCormick X6.4 VT-Drive with the aim of giving a livestock, mixed enterprise or arable farm a welcome New Year boost.
A multi-question competition (which closes at 11am on the second day of LAMMA) will decide the winner of this mid-range machine, which received a prestigious Tractor of the Year 2018 award for its compactness, manoeuvrability and overall build integrity.
The judging panel also noted how the X6.440 VT-Drive brought the advantages and benefits of a continuously variable transmission – mainly seen on larger, more powerful machines – to a size of tractor typically used on small to mid-size farms, often with a loader.
Adrian Winnett, Argo Tractors managing director, UK and Ireland, said: “In 2020, the McCormick portfolio of highly versatile and easy to operate VT-Drive tractors is being expanded, so the X6.4 VT-Drive is a fitting prize for our LAMMA contest.
“We hope that whoever wins the use of this machine will benefit from its precision speed control, easy operating characteristics and great economy, while also enjoying the pleasure of driving a brand new tractor.”
Once experienced, McCormick VT-Drive users rarely want to revert to a powershift transmission; they like the seamless acceleration on the road, the ability to set a precise speed for yard jobs like feeding and bedding stock, and the lack of gear shifting in the field to compensate for hilly ground.
Consistent pto speeds for sprayers, fertiliser spreaders and so on regardless of terrain, and the ability to choose ‘power’ and ‘economy’ settings as appropriate for the work being done are also cited as attractions of VT-Drive transmissions.
The McCormick X6.4 VT-Drive features 110-litre/min load-sensing hydraulics for the 6000kg rear lift and optional front linkage, and for the mechanical or fingertip-operated electric spool valves, or a combination of the two.
Also available are mechanical suspension for the cab and an advanced front axle with individual wheel suspension for optimum ride comfort and traction in the field.
