Wind and rain add to Working Hunter challenge at Ardnacashel

THE final week of the Ardnacashel Equestrian Working Hunter League took place on Saturday, November 6. Having nearly escaped the bad weather for the six-week league, the final leg provided a challenge of wind and rain to add to a flowing course built by the Ardnacashel team.

Judge Fiona Morrow started her day casting an expert eye over the cross-pole class. This was won by the very consistent pairing of Elissa Cowan on ‘Ruby Tuesday’, closely followed by her sister Rebecca Cowan on ‘Beltoy Panteal’ – the sisters then replicated these placings for the league final, taking away some prizes for their ponies.

The pony 60cm class was won by Jocelyn Hutchinson on ‘Langwedh Miss Saigon’, a team who stayed high up the placings each week of the six-week league. They then completed the run with the league winner’s prize.

In the 70cm, the class was won by Alex Hemsley on ‘Vinnie’, with Jocelyn Hutchinson coming second in the class on ‘Langwedh Miss Saigon’. Jocelyn then went on the win the league, but this time with ‘Flight of Earls Alo’ and took runner up with ‘Langwedh Miss Saigon’.

Poppy Smith and ‘Haywards Lasting Impression’, unbeaten through the league in the pony 80cm class, again proved they are a force to be reckoned with, winning their class and the league. They moved straight on to the M&M class and again took the honours.

In the pony 90cm, Faith Adair won the class with her lovely pony ‘Kate’. This combination have progressed up the classes throughout the league and are an exciting combination for the future.

The horse classes were up next, with Fiona Morrow again casting her expert eye. In the 70cm, Victoria White McCurdy and her lovely dun mare ‘Temple Bui’ won the class and the league going on to repeat this in the 80cm class, receiving extremely positive comments from the judge.

The horse 90cm class was won by Heather Steele on ‘Poppy’, who also took home a lovely goody bag for winning the league. Elaine Morrow completed the day, winning the 1m class on ‘Daisy’ in torrential rain and wind, making it a timely end to the day.

Many thanks to everyone who made the league possible; to all the competitors for their support; to the judges for providing their expertise and time and finally to Team Ardnacashel for ensuring the smooth running of the show.
